Rhythm: Sight & Sound

Rhythm in graphic design describes the visual repetition of compositional elements. Visual elements repeated in regular intervals create order and unity, while visual elements repeated in irregular intervals can create tension and drama.

Rhythm in music operates in the same way, where steady rhythms can hold a composition together and create a sense of order, while mixed meter and irregular rhythmic passages are perceived as dramatic and dynamic.

This audiovisual exhibit uses a monochrome CRT monitor as a medium to demonstrate the properties of rhythm in its visual and musical counterparts.
